Indian Rock Vineyard — Calaveras County Winery & Tasting Room

Indian Rock Vineyard is named for the bedrock outcrops — the granite and volcanic rock formations that Indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada foothills used as grinding stones for acorn processing, leaving the circular mortar holes that mark the stone surfaces. The Pennsylvania Gulch Road estate near Murphys incorporates rock outcrops that bear evidence of Indigenous use, connecting the vineyard to the deep human history of the Sierra Nevada foothills landscape before European settlement. The estate produces Zinfandel, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Barbera from Calaveras County estate vineyard blocks.
