About Knighton Family Vineyards
Knighton Family Vineyards is a small hillside producer at 3860 Old Lawley Toll Road, founded by Jim and Ann Knighton after Jim bought the property in the late 1990s as a weekend retreat. The couple replanted long-abandoned, overgrown vineyard blocks starting in 2004 and released their first commercial vintage, just 50 cases, in 2007.
The 50-acre property sits at 1,000 to 1,500 feet on the northern slopes of Mt. St. Helena, about a mile from the Lake County line, well north of the town of Calistoga itself, despite the winery's Calistoga mailing address. Only 3.9 of the 50 acres are planted, across five steep, rocky blocks with vine rows spaced just 20 feet apart on narrow terraces; wine is made off-site at Vineyard 29 by winemaker Keith Emerson, with annual production around 300 cases.
Despite its Calistoga mailing address, Knighton Family Vineyards sits on Mt. St. Helena's northern slopes near the Lake County line, nowhere close to Howell Mountain.

"A tiny, terraced hillside producer whose Calistoga address is misleading, the vineyard actually sits far north near the Lake County line, nowhere near Howell Mountain."
