About La Biblioteca Wine
La Biblioteca takes its name and its whole framing from books: a bottle is a story you pour, and the wines are presented as things to sit with rather than tick off. The tasting room is on the ground floor of the Dundee Hotel, in the middle of town.
The fruit comes from Aegrina Estate Vineyard in the McMinnville AVA, farmed sustainably. What makes the project unusual is who makes the wine: Francois Millet, a Burgundian winemaker with a long and serious reputation, who works to a philosophy of minimal intervention and restrained new oak, on the principle that forceful technique compromises what the vintage is actually saying.
The results are described as lifted and aromatic with real complexity, which is a fair summary of what that approach tends to produce. Handling is deliberately gentle and the French oak is used lightly.
Tastings cover four wines and take parties of up to six. There is also an Elevated Tasting Series that works through the estate vineyard in parts, the first instalment focusing on the Pommard clone. The room is open seven days, which is unusual, and being in the centre of Dundee it sits within a short walk of Red Hills Market, the Dundee Bistro and several other tasting rooms.
