About Los Arabis Vineyards
Los Arabis Vineyards takes its name from the Arabian horses that ran this steep Lafayette hillside for years before Jim and Leslie Ward planted 1,500 Pinot Noir vines in 1999. The Wards caught the winegrowing bug through a friend who owned a winery, produced their first wine in 2002, and in 2005 became founding members of the Lamorinda Wine Growers Association - the group that put this pocket of Contra Costa County, just east of the Caldecott Tunnel, on the wine map.
The vineyard is a true microclimate site: a southwest-facing slope sitting just past the coastal fog belt, where warm days and cool nights let Pinot Noir ripen slowly. The hillside is steep enough that everything is farmed entirely by hand. The resulting Pinot runs dry and silky, with cola, nutmeg, and mace spice over a sweet-fruited finish.
There is no public tasting room, but tastings can be arranged by reaching out to the winery directly. The wines are also sold online and stocked at local favorites including Diablo Foods and Jackson's, at Total Wine, and in Lamorinda restaurants, with local delivery available around Lafayette, Moraga, and Orinda.
