About Loubud Wines

Loubud is Santa Barbara's dedicated bubbly house, and very likely its most charming concept: a sparkling wine and hand-cut wooden puzzle company run by wife and husband Laura and Paul Hughes. Laura, a UC Davis viticulture and enology graduate with stints in Burgundy, Tasmania, Napa and South Africa, came to Sanford Winery in 2012, spearheaded its sparkling program, and founded her own label in 2015 with encouragement from legends like Sanford and Benedict co-founder Michael Benedict, naming it for her childhood nickname, Loubudillia.

Everything is traditional-method sparkling from cool Sta. Rita Hills fruit, in tiny vineyard-designated lots, from a Sanford and Benedict Blanc de Blancs to a Rancho La Vina Brut Rose and bottlings from sandy Cebada Vineyard, some resting two-plus years on the lees.

The tasting room, opened in December 2024 in the cobblestone El Paseo courtyard of the Presidio Neighborhood, is pure old-world whimsy: white adobe walls, red tile floors, records spinning, Paul's hand-cut jigsaw puzzles on the tables, and their dog Taco greeting guests on Sundays. Family-friendly, pet-friendly, outside food welcome.
