MacPhail Family Wines

MacPhail Family Wines is one of Russian River Valley's most focused and critically acclaimed small Pinot Noir producers. Founded in 1999 by James MacPhail — whose winemaking career included stints at Kistler and other landmark California producers — the winery produces exclusively Pinot Noir from carefully selected RRV vineyard sites.

James MacPhail's approach is resolutely minimalist: native yeast fermentation, minimal additions, and extended time in barrel to allow each vineyard's character to fully emerge. The results — consistently 95+ point scores from critics — speak to the approach's effectiveness.

The Healdsburg tasting salon on Healdsburg Avenue gives visitors access to MacPhail's portfolio in a sophisticated downtown setting. The wines are rarely available at retail and primarily reach customers through the tasting room and mailing list.
