About Martin Pohl Wines
Martin Pohl Wines brings the natural wine movement to downtown Middletown, pouring organic, biodynamic and regeneratively farmed bottlings from a tasting room on Calistoga Street at the southern gateway to Lake County wine country. Winemaker Martin Pohl works in an old-world register with a modern edge, and the lineup ranges through pet-nat sparklers, orange wine and traditional reds alongside more familiar varieties.
The standard tasting runs $20, while a $40 wine and chocolate pairing turns the visit into a longer sensory session. Weekend hours stretch into Friday evenings, which makes the room one of the few places in the county to taste after dark, and weekday visits are available by appointment.
The location earns its keep for travelers: Middletown sits on Highway 29 minutes north of Calistoga, so the room works equally as a first stop entering Lake County or a last pour before dropping back into Napa Valley. For drinkers curious about low-intervention winemaking, it is the county's clearest expression of the style.
