About Martin Ranch Winery
The drive up Redwood Retreat Road is part of the experience at Martin Ranch. For more than 20 years winemakers Dan and Therese Martin have run this secluded 17-acre working ranch in the eastern foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains outside Gilroy, collecting international accolades while keeping the place feeling like a family property - estate vineyards, Therese's organic garden, a pond, and open space in every direction.
The cellar covers remarkable ground: more than 15 varietals of red and white wine, from Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Malbec to Chardonnay and Syrah, each release built to express vineyard and vintage. Dan's barrel-room tours and the onsite J.D. Hurley Coffee Roasting Co. add to the ranch's anything-but-corporate character.
Tasting weekends run the first and third weekend of every month, Friday through Sunday from 12 to 5 - bring a picnic, order by the glass or bottle, and settle in for the afternoon (reservations recommended; groups of six or more should call ahead). The winery office opens Wednesday through Friday, 10 to 2, for pickups and purchases between open weekends. Seasonal artisan pop-ups, harvest celebrations, and private events round out the calendar.
