About Maurice Car'rie Vineyard & Winery
Maurice Car'rie Vineyard & Winery is one of Temecula Valley's founding-era estates, built in 1986 by Budd and Maurice Van Roekel and anchored by its picture-perfect Victorian-style farmhouse and landmark windmill on Rancho California Road. The Van Roekel family ran the property for decades before it was sold, and today the estate operates as Ultimate Vineyards at Maurice Car'rie under owner Janak Patel, keeping the historic name and the traditions that made it a Temecula institution.
The estate vineyard sits in the bed of the ancient Santa Margarita River, where accumulated sediments and a geological bowl that traps cool night air help the fruit retain acidity and tannin. The winery farms with a living-soils approach, using annual organic compost amendments, beneficial microbe inoculation and nitrogen-fixing cover crops rather than pesticides, herbicides or fungicides, and pours one of the valley's broadest lists, from light and sweet styles to full-bodied reds.
For generations of visitors the signature experience has been the famous baked brie in sourdough bread, served from the tasting room alongside a bistro-style menu seven days a week. Expansive lawns, wide verandas and a casual walk-in tradition make this one of the easiest and most nostalgic stops in the valley, and the winery accepts the SIP Passport.
