About Mazzocco Sonoma
Mazzocco Sonoma is the premier single-vineyard Zinfandel house in the Dry Creek Valley. Perched on a saddle between Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys with sweeping views of the estate Briar Vineyard, the winery has been producing single-vineyard designate Zinfandel since 1985 — first under its original ownership, then under the Wilson Artisan Wineries family since 2005.
Winemaker Antoine Favero draws from some of Sonoma County's most geographically diverse and dramatically situated vineyard sources: loamy valley floors, rugged benchlands, and remote rocky mountain sites that produce Zinfandels of remarkably individual character. 'It's the fruit,' Favero states simply — and the single-vineyard designate program reflects that conviction by allowing each site to speak directly through its own dedicated bottling.
The tasting experience is genuinely exceptional: private outdoor tables with Briar Vineyard views, tableside service by knowledgeable hosts, and 75-minute reservations that ensure unhurried exploration of the Mazzocco Zinfandel range. Children and well-behaved pets are welcome. Picnic grounds on the south hillside overlook the estate vineyard for visitors who want to extend their afternoon.
Founded in 1985, Mazzocco has spent four decades refining its understanding of Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel — a variety that reaches a particular equilibrium of richness, spice, and structure in this appellation that is difficult to replicate elsewhere. The winery's commitment to single-vineyard bottlings means each release tells a specific story about a specific place, and returning visitors can trace the evolution of individual sites across multiple vintages.
"Mazzocco is the kind of Dry Creek Valley producer that reminds you why Zinfandel became California's signature grape — grown here, it achieves a complexity and depth that earns serious attention."
The tasting fee starts at $25 with reservations required, and the outdoor tableside format with Briar Vineyard views makes this one of the most scenic and unhurried tasting experiences in northern Sonoma County. Wine club members receive priority access to single-vineyard allocations that often sell out before reaching the open market.
