About Meyer Family Cellars

Meyer Family Cellars carries one of California wine's great lineages: Justin Meyer co-founded Silver Oak Cellars in 1972 with his wife Bonny and partner Ray Duncan, building it into a benchmark for California Cabernet. The Meyer Family brand itself was born in 1987 from Justin's love of Port, and in 1998 Justin and his son Matt found this Yorkville Highlands property with the aim of growing cool-climate Syrah at the mouth of Anderson Valley.

Today winemaking is a team effort between Matt Meyer and his Australian-born wife Karen, spanning the flagship Yorkville Highlands Syrah and High Ground Reserve, a solera-style Old Vine Zinfandel Port that continues Justin's founding passion, Chardonnay, rose, Petite Sirah, and Cabernets that include the storied Bonny's Vineyard bottling. The wines stay approachable, food friendly and fairly priced.

The tasting room, a cozy arbor-draped building tucked against redwoods along Highway 128, may be the most family-complete stop on the entire wine road: a vine-canopied wine garden and picnic lawn, a playground for kids, a bocce court, and a nine-hole disc golf course with loaner discs. Dogs are welcome on the lawn, no reservation is required, and a second tasting room pours in Mendocino village on the coast.
