About Minassian-Young Vineyard
Minassian-Young farms one of the west side's genuine old-vine treasures: a dry-farmed, head-trained Zinfandel vineyard on a Peachy Canyon Road ridge, planted decades before winemaker David Young arrived and now well past forty years old. Young, raised on a San Diego family apple orchard and trained in viticulture at Cal Poly after northern California cellar work, opened the big wine barn tasting room in 2005 and joined the Far Out Wineries, the west side's self-mocking collective of remote, character-first producers.
The estate added Syrah, Mourvedre and Counoise plantings, first harvested in 2008, and production stays around a few thousand cases of what the house now calls dry-farmed, unapologetic Zinfandel and red blends, old-world made, honestly priced. The ridge-top tasting room looks across head-pruned vines and walnut trees to the Santa Lucias, with resident chickens and cats patrolling the grounds. It is far-out Paso in the original sense: remote, personal and worth the drive.
