About Montinore Estate
Montinore Estate in Forest Grove is one of Oregon's most distinctive large estates — 232 acres of vineyards certified Demeter biodynamic, making it the largest biodynamic winery in the state. Owner Rudy Marchesi purchased the estate in 2001 and converted the entire property to biodynamic farming over the following decade, applying the holistic agricultural philosophy developed by Rudolf Steiner in the 1920s.
The estate sits in the Tualatin Hills AVA, at the northwestern edge of the Willamette Valley wine country — a slightly cooler and wetter position than the Dundee Hills or Eola-Amity Hills that produces wines of particular freshness and aromatic lift. The soils here are predominantly Laurelwood fine sandy loam, which drains well and forces vine roots deep in search of water and nutrients.
While Pinot Noir is the backbone of the portfolio, Montinore has developed a reputation for white wines that are often ahead of their more expensive counterparts. The Müller-Thurgau, a grape rarely seen in serious American wine production, is vinified here with uncommon skill into something genuinely aromatic and complex. The estate is open daily and welcomes visitors without a reservation.
