About Muscardini Cellars

Muscardini Cellars is the most comprehensively Italian-variety-focused small winery in the Sonoma Valley. Michael Muscardini — whose family heritage and winemaking passion have always centered on the Italian varieties that California wine has historically underexplored — established the Kenwood Highway 12 estate in 2002 with a program that has consistently grown in recognition and critical appreciation as the quality of California Italian-variety winemaking has improved across the board.

The wine program spans Sangiovese, Primitivo (Italy's original name for what California calls Zinfandel), Dolcetto, Barbera, and other Italian varietals from Sonoma County and California sourcing relationships. The consistent critical thread across all Muscardini wines is the genuine Italian character — food-first acidity, structural elegance, and the aromatic complexity that these varieties produce when a winemaker has genuine cultural connection to their homeland styles.

The Highway 12 Kenwood tasting room — open Thursday through Monday with walk-in access and picnic grounds — provides one of the most genuinely educational and enjoyable Italian varietal explorations available at any Sonoma Valley tasting room.

Sangiovese
Sonoma County Estate
Muscardini's flagship — estate Sangiovese showing the herb-tinged, bright-acidity, food-first character of Italy's most celebrated red variety in Michael Muscardini's genuinely Italian-heritage winemaking style.

Primitivo
Primitivo
Sonoma County
California's original Zinfandel under its Italian name — Muscardini's Primitivo showing how labeling and approach produce distinctly different wine from the same genetic variety when the winemaker brings Italian heritage rather than California tradition to the production.

Dolcetto
Dolcetto
Sonoma County
One of Sonoma County's rarest varietal Dolcetto programs — Muscardini's Piedmontese variety showing the dark-fruited, almost bittersweet character of the grape that Northern Italians drink with antipasti as the most food-compatible of the region's reds.

Barbera
Barbera
Sonoma County Estate
Muscardini's Piedmontese red counterpart to the Dolcetto — estate Barbera showing the bright cherry acidity and warm, generous character that this Italian variety produces in Sonoma County's warm Mediterranean corridors.
