About Namaste Vineyards
Namaste sits on rolling hills about fifteen minutes west of Salem, in the Van Duzer Corridor where the gap in the Coast Range lets the marine air through in the afternoon. The vineyards went in between 1980 and 1983, which puts the vines well past forty years old, and the estate now runs to six separate vineyard blocks.
It is family owned and worked by hand. The estate plantings are Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewurztraminer and two clones of Pinot Noir, and the white wines and Pinot Noir are made entirely from that estate fruit. Whites go into stainless steel to keep them bright, with the Riesling and Gewurztraminer made in dry and off-dry styles.
There is also a semi-sweet white called Peace for those who want it, and a Reserve Cuvee built as a fifty-fifty blend and given two years of ageing. For the Big Reds range the winery steps outside the estate and buys from a small group of trusted growers, which it says plainly rather than blurring the line.
The tasting room looks out over the vineyard and the drive up is part of the experience: it is a gravel road off the beaten track, and visitors consistently report that it is worth the trip. Guided vineyard tours are offered, and the site is used for weddings and private events.
