About Nicholson Ranch
Nicholson Ranch is a family-owned artisan winery on 40 windswept acres at the crossroads of Sonoma and Napa, a rare spot where four of California's finest appellations, Sonoma Valley, Sonoma Coast, Napa Valley and Los Carneros, come together. Founded by winemaker Deepak Gulrajani and Ramona Nicholson, its estate vineyards were planted in 1996 and 1997 and are farmed sustainably and low-yield for concentrated flavor.
The handsome winery, completed in 2003 in a Mediterranean-meets-California style with salvaged first-growth redwood and slate, is built on a gravity-flow design directly above wine caves dug into the hillside, where the estate wines age up to three years in French oak. The focus is handcrafted, estate-grown Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, made with native yeasts and minimal intervention, alongside smaller lots of Merlot and Syrah; the wines have taken Double Golds and Best of Class at the San Francisco Chronicle competition for years running.
Visitors can taste in the rustic tasting room or out on the patio overlooking the vineyards, with guided tastings and cave tours available daily. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends.
