About Patland Estate Vineyards
Patland Estate Vineyards is owned by Henry and Olga Patland, Ukrainian immigrants who purchased their hillside property above Soda Canyon Road in 2007 after being inspired by a visit to Peju Winery in the 1980s. They named the estate 'Terra del Cuore' -- Italian for 'land of the heart' -- and their home there was destroyed in the 2017 Atlas Peak fire before being rebuilt. Since January 2013 the winery has operated from The Caves at Soda Canyon, a shared production facility founded with three other first-generation winemaking families: Waugh Cellars, Buoncristiani Family Winery, and Lobo Wines.
The estate, at roughly 1,600 feet elevation, produces about 3,000 cases a year under head winemaker Felix Patland, the couple's son. Wines include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Rosé of Syrah, a Proprietary Red, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon (including a Reserve bottling), with labels featuring artwork by Croatian artist Dzemal Emric and imagery drawn from an ancient pomegranate-emblazoned coin.
Patland's hillside estate sits at about 1,600 feet, in the Atlas Peak sub-appellation rather than the lower-elevation Coombsville AVA.
