About Piedra Creek Winery
Piedra Creek Winery is named for the stone creek that runs through the property — piedra being Spanish for 'rock' or 'stone,' an apt description for the creek's rocky bed that winds through the Edna Valley estate. It is a topographic name of the most direct kind: this is the creek, these are the stones, and the wine comes from the vineyard those stones drain.
The Maestro Drive estate in the Edna Valley has been producing Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon since 1994, predating the sub-appellation's recognition and demonstrating that San Luis Obispo's cool marine climate could produce red wines of structure and complexity alongside its more celebrated white wines.
The Edna Valley's daily marine fog and temperature moderation — the Pacific Ocean's influence flowing through the Chumash Gap — creates growing conditions unusual for Central Coast California, and Piedra Creek's Zinfandel and Cabernet reflect this maritime character.
