About Quivet Cellars
Quivet Cellars is a small, appointment-free, mailing-list-only négociant winery based in St. Helena, formed by a partnership of four individuals, including winemaker Mike Smith, who came together around 2006-2007 after meeting through Calistoga's wine trade. The name comes from Quivet Neck, a historic area of Cape Cod, Massachusetts settled in 1639, a nod to one partner's family history rather than to any Napa place name.
Rather than farming its own estate, Quivet sources fruit from a short list of well-regarded Napa and Sonoma vineyards, including Beckstoffer's Las Piedras and Pellet vineyards in St. Helena, Kenefick Ranch in Calistoga, the Peterson family's Switchback Ridge on the Silverado Trail, a Spring Mountain District hillside site, and Los Madres Vineyard in Sonoma's Carneros AVA, producing small-lot, vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon and limited Syrah in a hands-on, French-oak-driven style.
Quivet Cellars owns no vineyard of its own, instead building vineyard-designated Cabernets from Beckstoffer, Kenefick Ranch, and Switchback Ridge fruit.
