About Rarecat Wines
RareCat Wines was founded in 2009 by Sharon Harris, a Bay Area vintner whose interest in wine began during a study-abroad tasting of Château Haut-Brion in Bordeaux and who later completed the University of Bordeaux's D.U.A.D. winemaking program; Harris had earlier founded Napa's Amici Cellars in 1992 and still farms Amici's Old Toll Hillside Vineyard in Calistoga. RareCat has no single estate, it is a small négociant-style producer sourcing single-vineyard fruit from across Napa Valley, including Diamond Mountain, Coombsville, Atlas Peak and St. Helena, alongside a Saint-Émilion bottling made in Bordeaux.
Harris's stated winemaking focus is food-friendly, balanced wines with pronounced 'dancing acidity,' built around single-vineyard sites and blended the way she describes assembling 'a sports team', weighing how components work together, not just individual metrics. Annual production runs around 2,900 cases across the California and French bottlings, sold almost entirely direct-to-consumer through the winery's mailing list and wine club; Harris is also a co-founder of A Woman's Palate, a networking group for women in wine.
RareCat has no home vineyard, sourcing single-vineyard Napa fruit from Diamond Mountain to Coombsville while also bottling a wine in Saint-Émilion.
