About Ravines Wine Cellars
Ravines Wine Cellars is the creation of Morten and Lisa Hallgren, a French-trained oenologist and his chef wife who together built one of the most acclaimed estates in the Finger Lakes. Founded in 2001, Ravines pioneered the bone-dry, mineral-tinged Riesling style that the region is now celebrated for, and today farms over 130 acres of certified sustainable vineyards on the steep limestone and shalestone slopes of Seneca and Keuka Lakes. Morten was born in Denmark, raised in Provence, and trained in Bordeaux, bringing a deeply European sensibility to cool-climate New York winemaking.
The winery is housed in a converted 1890s barn on Barracks Road in Geneva, where visitors can look down through a glass window in the floor into the barrel room below. The portfolio includes Dry Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and a Brut Rose sparkling wine. Ravines has appeared on' Top 100 Wineries in the World list and on's Top 100 Wines of the Year. The Ravinous Kitchen offers seasonal small plates designed by Lisa, and the estate hosts intimate tasting table experiences and elaborate five-course food and wine pairings.
