About McGregor Vineyard
McGregor Vineyard sits hidden on a hillside just above the eastern shore of Keuka Lake, one of the oldest wineries in the Finger Lakes and an early champion of estate-grown European vinifera. Bob and Marge McGregor bought roughly 70 acres here in 1971, when Bob, a physicist at Kodak near Rochester, turned his home-winemaking hobby into a family calling, and opened the winery in 1980.
The estate's vinifera vines are now among the oldest in the region, yielding small, high-quality lots of dry reds and whites. McGregor is best known as a pioneer of the Georgian grape Saperavi, whose acclaimed bottling, long marketed as 'Black Russian Red,' became a benchmark New York red; the winery is also one of the few places to taste both Saperavi and the white Rkatsiteli, alongside Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Noir.
Visits are relaxed and seated, guided by staff who share the winery's role in the Finger Lakes story, and paired with a complimentary plate of cheese, pesto, and chocolate. With indoor and outdoor seating, dog-friendly grounds, and one of the most spectacular views on Keuka Lake, it's a rewarding stop. The family legacy continues under second-generation winemaker John McGregor.
