About Greenbrier Valley

The Greenbrier Valley is West Virginia's most elegant wine destination, and that's not just about the wine. The valley's centuries-old resort tradition, anchored by The Greenbrier itself, has created a culture of hospitality and culinary sophistication that elevates everything around it, including the growing local wine scene.

The valley's viticultural promise comes from its geography. Sitting at about 2,000 feet between the Allegheny and Appalachian ridges, the Greenbrier Valley receives less rainfall than the surrounding mountains, enjoys excellent air drainage that prevents frost pockets, and sits on limestone karst geology that produces well-drained, mineral-rich soils. Cabernet Franc, Chambourcin, and Traminette all perform well here.

A Greenbrier Valley wine experience combines tasting with the best of what the region offers: browsing the galleries and boutiques of Lewisburg's charming downtown, soaking in natural mineral springs, hiking or biking the Greenbrier River Trail, and dining at restaurants that take regional cuisine seriously. It's West Virginia at its most polished, and the wines are catching up.
