Ridge Monte Bello is named for the estate's location — Monte Bello Road, the beautiful mountain road of the Santa Cruz Mountains above Cupertino where the Ridge estate has been producing Cabernet Sauvignon since 1962. Paul Draper's winemaking philosophy — minimal intervention, long aging, estate limestone-influenced soils — created one of California's most consistent and age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon programs. The 1971 Monte Bello Cabernet competed in the 1976 Paris Tasting's rematch in 2006, finishing first among all red wines aged 30 years. Wine Advocate has scored Monte Bello at 93–98 points.
