Rooster Hill Vineyards sits on the eastern side of Keuka Lake just south of Penn Yan, on Route 54. It is the Keuka campus of the CK Cellars group, whose other sites, Torrey Ridge, Earle Estates Meadery and WortHog, sit across on the western shore of Seneca Lake.

The stated aim is straightforward enough: aim high and make wines worth savouring. The Keuka setting is the draw, on a lake whose glacially deposited soils supported some of the earliest commercial grape growing in the country.

Visiting

Open daily 11am to 5pm, and the winery specifically flags that it stays open through January to April, when a good number of Finger Lakes tasting rooms cut back or close for the season. Reach them on (315) 536-4773.

Rooster Hill Vineyards sits on Keuka Lake, the Y-shaped lake at the heart of the Finger Lakes and the birthplace of commercial winemaking in the region.
