About Rotta Winery

Rotta is a living piece of Central Coast history, one of Paso Robles' three original wineries, with roots on this Templeton land reaching back to the 1850s. Bought by the Swiss-Italian Rotta family in 1908, it was one of the few California wineries to keep operating through Prohibition, and it remains best known for Zinfandel and its singular Black Monukka, a sherry-meets-port dessert wine that is a Rotta exclusive.

Beyond the Zinfandel and Black Monukka, expect Cabernet, Cabernet Franc, and other reds, with a tasting room partly built from wood salvaged from the original winery. Now carried forward by a family committed to honoring its storied past, Rotta is worth seeking out for anyone who wants to taste Paso's heritage in the glass.

Rotta Winery isRotta Winery is one of California's oldest continuously operating family wineries, founded in 1856 by the Italian immigrant Rotta family in the Templeton area of what is now Paso Robles wine country.
The Rotta familyThe Rotta family, whose 1856 Italian-immigrant wine estate establishment makes this one of the most historically founding-significance and most personally multigenerational-Italian-heritage-Rotta-family-warmly-conducted California wine appointments available, has produced Zinfandel and Petite Sirah from Templeton-area old-vine estate sources continuously across more than 165 years of family ownership.
The Rotta foundingThe Rotta founding legacy, spanning from the most personally Italian-immigrant-1856-founding through Prohibition survival, post-repeal resumption, and multiple Rotta family generation transitions, creates one of California's most genuinely historically-deeply-rooted and most personally multigenerational-Italian-heritage-family-warmly-conducted wine estate appointments.
