About Sable Ridge Vineyards
Sable Ridge Vineyards is a small-production, family-owned winery in the cool-climate Bennett Valley, just southeast of Santa Rosa. It was founded in 1995 by Chuck Barr and Mary Ann Costello, two wine lovers who, after fifteen years of Sonoma visits, left the corporate world to chase a wine-country dream, first working at wineries and studying viticulture and winemaking before opening their own.
The overriding inspiration, they say, is unique and special vineyards, and the winery is best known for its Estate Syrah from Bennett Valley, alongside rich, balanced Zinfandels that top the lineup, plus red blends, whites and dessert wines. Grapes come from the estate vineyard as well as select sites in the Sonoma Valley, Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley and Lodi.
Handcrafted in small lots, Sable Ridge introduces several new wines each year and has collected awards since the late 1990s. Tastings and tours are personal and low-key, a quiet, unpretentious stop for lovers of Syrah and Zinfandel.
