About Scout Vineyards
About Scout Vineyards
Scout Vineyards is a family owned and operated farm winery on the western shore of Seneca Lake, established in 2017 by the Budmen and Todd families. In 2018 they purchased a 16-acre organic farm, which they continue to farm organically while preparing the land for a vineyard of their own. The focus is Chardonnay, a variety they consider both food friendly and unusually expressive of the ground it grows on.
Daniel and Olivia graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 2015 and went travelling, first on a cross country drive to Napa Valley, where Daniel worked in the vineyard and Olivia in hospitality and sales, then to Blenheim in New Zealand, the heart of Marlborough wine country, where Olivia managed fruit intake through harvest and Daniel handled growing operations. Scout is what they came home to build.
Visiting
The Wine Tasting Experience is a guided, seated tasting of five wines paired with a snack plate. The cellar door has three tables seating a maximum of six guests each, so reservations are recommended - walk-ins are accepted when space allows but a table cannot be guaranteed. The last tasting begins at 4:15 PM, with final call for wine by the glass at 4:30 PM. Groups arriving by bus or limo cannot be accommodated, and parties larger than six should email ahead. Wine club members receive a complimentary tasting for up to four guests per visit.
Tasting room hours are Thu-Sun 11am-5pm. Wines can also be ordered for pickup at the winery or shipped, with delivery available to a majority of US states.
