About South Dominion Vineyard
South Dominion Vineyard is a New York State Grown and Certified, family-owned winery in the rolling hills of Cambridge, in Washington County, upstate New York, and a proud part of the Upper Hudson Wine Trail in the Upper Hudson AVA. It sits on land that has been continuously farmed for nearly 260 years, once part of a 700-acre parcel within the 1761 Cambridge Patent.
The vineyard was founded in 2016, when the family planted 1,300 Franco-American cold-hardy hybrid vines - varieties bred to blend wild American and European vinifera grapes and thrive through the cold upstate winters. The wines span whites and reds that vary in body, sweetness and finish, all made largely from the estate's own cold-climate fruit.
The tasting room, a post-and-beam building completed around 2019 with large windows, a vaulted ceiling and a fireplace, opened in 2020 and includes a loft lounge stocked with used books, vintage vinyl and works by local artists. The winery is open seasonally, roughly early May through late November, for tastings, tours, events and picnics, and is dog-friendly; smaller groups do not need reservations, though larger parties should call ahead.
