About Sovereign Estate Winery
Sovereign Estate Winery occupies one of the most enviable locations in Minnesota wine country: the north shore of Lake Waconia, about 35 minutes west of Minneapolis. The vineyard was planted in 2008, and the wine shop opened in 2011, growing steadily into one of the state's most awarded wineries. The estate vineyard grows cold-hardy grapes developed by the University of Minnesota's breeding program, including Itasca, Marquette, La Crescent, and Frontenac Blanc, and the wines produced from these grapes have consistently earned recognition at regional and national competitions. The lakefront setting defines the experience. The winery patio, with its views across Lake Waconia, is one of the finest outdoor tasting spaces in the state, and the property has been designed to make the most of every season.
Summer brings live music, seasonal dining, and trivia nights on the patio. Winter features heated outdoor cabanas, a holiday festival with lights displays, and the kind of cozy indoor atmosphere that makes visiting worthwhile even in January. The winery is conveniently located along the Dakota Rail Trail, welcoming hikers and bikers alongside drivers. Owned by the Savaryn family, Sovereign Estate has maintained a personal, family-operated feel even as the operation has grown. The tasting room offers guided wine experiences and walk-in tastings, and the restaurant serves seasonal menus, pizzas, and charcuterie boards designed for pairing. The winery is open year-round, Tuesday through Sunday, and is a natural companion stop with nearby Schram Vineyards for visitors exploring the Waconia wine cluster.
