About Steinbeck Vineyards & Winery
The Steinbeck family has farmed east Paso Robles since 1884, making theirs one of the region's deepest agricultural lineages, with the vineyard era arriving in the 1980s as the family converted grain and almond ground to wine grapes. For decades the Steinbecks were among the area's most important growers before launching their own label from the family's Union Road home ranch.
Beyond the tasting room, the family became known for its Crash Course experiences, open-air vineyard tours in which family members share five-plus generations of farming stories, including the tale of the World War II-era plane crash on the ranch that gives one wine its name. It remains a genuine working-family counterpoint to Paso's showier estates.
