About Story of Soil
Story of Soil is winemaker Jessica Gasca's deliberately tiny Los Olivos label, built on a simple conviction: work with extraordinary vineyards and stay out of the way. She cut her teeth at Gold Coast Vineyard and Dragonette Cellars before opening her own tasting room with husband Brady Fiechter in 2017 and going fully independent the following year.
The lineup runs about a dozen single-vineyard, small-batch wines, rarely more than 200 cases each: Pinot Noir, Syrah, Grenache, Sauvignon Blanc, Gamay Noir and Gruner Veltliner drawn from top sites across the county, from Duvarita and Larner to Presqu'ile and Bentrock. Gasca is meticulous about sourcing, working with five of the county's seven certified-biodynamic vineyards, and the cellar work stays gentle and minimal.
The tasting room sits on quiet San Marcos Avenue a couple of blocks from the Los Olivos flagpole, with a hand-drawn chalk map of the county's AVAs on the wall, a backyard lawn for sunny days, and often Jessica or Brady themselves behind the pours. Tastings run daily from 11 to 5, with walk-ins welcome as space allows.
