About TEXTBOOK Vineyards
Jonathan and Susan Pey, whose years of shared travel through France and Italy left them enamored with European wine's restraint and food-friendliness, founded TEXTBOOK in 2004 using relationships Jonathan had built over decades as a wine industry veteran to access two coveted Oakville vineyard sites, Holmes and Vyborny, neighboring Screaming Eagle and Harlan Estate. The name came from their own reaction tasting the first barrel of Oakville Cabernet: "This is textbook Oakville Cab."
For years the Peys hand-sold and delivered wine out of the family SUV between soccer practices and parent-teacher conferences before growing TEXTBOOK into a brand distributed across 46 states and six countries. Jonathan sold the label to Distinguished Vineyards & Wine Partners, a Kirin-affiliated group that also owns Markham Vineyards, in 2019, continuing to oversee winemaking alongside current winemaker Abigail Estrada, whose experience spans Markham, Domaine Chandon, and Robert Mondavi.
