About Tofanelli Family Vineyards
Vince Tofanelli's grandparents, Sebastian DiGiulio and Irene DalPorto, established this Calistoga vineyard, then known as DiGiulio Ranch, planting most of its vines in the 1929-1930 growing season. Vince, born in nearby Deer Park, took over management of the property in 1977 after his grandfather's death, continuing to farm many of the original pre-World War II vines that survive to this day, head-trained without trellis wires and entirely dry-farmed.
Legendary consultant André Tchelistcheff visited the property in 1987 and suggested Vince plant Charbono, a rare, heat-loving variety well suited to Calistoga's warm climate. The 40-acre estate today grows an unusually diverse mix for Napa Valley, including Charbono, Sémillon, Carignane, Grenache, Mondeuse Noir, Cinsault, Petite Sirah, and Zinfandel, much of it sold to producers like Duckhorn and Chateau Montelena alongside Tofanelli's own wines.
