About TOR Wines
Tor Kenward arrived in Napa Valley in 1977 hoping to become a winemaker and instead landed a job as a Beringer Vineyards tour guide, rising to vice president within three years. Over a 27-year career there, he built Beringer's culinary hospitality programs, bringing in chefs like Julia Child and a young Gary Danko, and helped pioneer barrel-fermented Chardonnay in Napa Valley after a formative 1981 trip to French wine country.
After retiring from Beringer in 2001, Kenward and his wife Susan founded their own label, modeling it on Burgundy's single-vineyard focus rather than Bordeaux's estate model. Working with winemaker Jeff Ames and grower Andy Beckstoffer, TOR now sources small lots from storied sites including Beckstoffer To Kalon and Vine Hill Ranch, earning multiple 100-point scores across its releases.
