About Philip Togni Vineyard
Philip Togni Vineyard is a small, family-run estate on Spring Mountain in the Spring Mountain District AVA above St. Helena. The late Philip Togni, a British-trained winemaker with earlier stints at Chalone, Chappellet, Cuvaison, and in Bordeaux, purchased the property in 1975, planted vines in 1981, and released the estate's first vintage in 1983.
The roughly 40-acre hillside property sits at about 2,000 feet elevation and is farmed organically with solar power; about half is planted, mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon alongside Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. An original Cinsault vine planted in the 1880s still survives on the land, and wines are made in a gravity-flow facility built into the hillside. Following Philip Togni's death in 2021, daughter Lisa Togni continues to run the estate, which sells primarily through its mailing list rather than public tastings.
Philip Togni Vineyard still tends a Cinsault vine planted on its Spring Mountain hillside back in the 1880s.
