About Madison Wine Country
Madison is Indiana's most atmospheric wine destination — a beautifully preserved antebellum river town on the Ohio River where Lanthier Winery occupies an 1847 distillery building and Ohio River bluff estates produce wines with views across to Kentucky. The combination of historic architecture, river scenery, and genuine wine culture makes Madison one of the most distinctive wine stops in the Midwest.
The Ohio River wine corridor here traces its heritage to 19th-century German immigrants who brought winemaking traditions from the Rhine and Mosel — the same settlers who established wineries in Cincinnati and the broader Ohio River Valley. That heritage is visible in the architectural character of Madison's downtown and in the winemaking philosophy of the area's producers.
