About Travieso Winery

Travieso means 'mischievous' - or as the winery cheerfully translates it, 'bad boy' - and the whole operation runs on that wink. Tucked in a warehouse on Cristich Lane in Campbell (keep driving past the roll-up doors; the funky artwork tells you you've arrived), this is a true urban winery where the winemaker - a geophysicist by day - pours his own wines and happily talks about 'his babies' with anyone at the bar.

The labels carry entertaining bits of Mexican folklore, and the cellar sources smartly from beyond the South Bay: the flagship El Rey Cabernet Sauvignon from northern Sonoma County, the Amaranta Syrah and El Tonto Rhone blends from Santa Barbara County, plus Grenache and a Chardonnay-Viognier-Roussanne white blend. Regulars rave about the value - superb wines at prices that make a case an easy decision.

The tasting room opens Saturdays from 1 to 5, with a $20 tasting fee credited toward any purchase. Reserve a table online through the winery's booking page; drop-ins won't be turned away when there's space, though a reservation is strongly suggested. Local pickup, delivery, and shipping keep the wines flowing between Saturdays, and a wine club adds standing discounts.

A geophysicist's 'babies' poured in a Campbell warehouse - trouble, sophistication, and serious value on Saturdays.
