About Treehouse Vineyards
Treehouse Vineyards is a family-run winery in Monroe, about 45 minutes southeast of Charlotte, built around two things its owners love: muscadine grapes and treehouses. Phil and Dianne Nordan planted their first vines in 2005 and opened to the public in 2010, after decades of Phil making wine as a hobby.
The winery takes its name from a treehouse Phil built for Dianne so the couple could have date nights at home during a period when she was caring for her ailing mother. Phil grew up on a tobacco farm near Benson and had built treehouses since childhood; the original Date Night structure went up using leftover lumber and wood from his father's old tobacco barn. Several more followed, and guests can now rent them - the Date Night treehouse by the hour, and overnight treehouses including Papa's Dream and Horsefeathers Hideaway.
The vineyard grows muscadine, the native Southern grape far better suited to the warm Piedmont climate than classic vinifera, and the lineup leans sweet with some drier bottlings alongside. Story-driven tastings run on the hour, winemaker tours are offered on weekends, and the property stays busy with trivia, bingo, murder-mystery nights, live music and weddings.
