Trois Noix Winery takes its name from the French trois noix — three walnuts, the three nut trees that mark a specific point in the Napa Valley landscape. The three walnuts naming follows a centuries-old European tradition of naming vineyard estates and wine properties for specific trees, geographical features, or landmarks visible from the property — the trois chênes (three oaks), the trois pins (three pines), the trois noix (three walnuts). The three walnut trees of the estate become the most intimate possible landmark: three specific trees whose presence declares a place with absolute precision.
