About Uys Garagiste Winery and Vineyard
Uys Garagiste Winery and Vineyard is run by Dirk and Michelle Uys, a husband-and-wife winemaking team who emigrated from South Africa in 2003 and planted a vineyard at their home on quiet Madera de Playa Drive, in the calmer interior of Temecula Wine Country away from the Rancho California Road corridor. They call it the smallest boutique winery in Temecula, and mean it: the couple manages the vineyard and every step of the winemaking themselves, barrel by barrel.
The wines are natural, vegan and made with minimal intervention in both vineyard and cellar, with no additives, from organically farmed local Temecula grapes, reflecting the family's South African heritage and European palate. Tastings are intimate, seated and by appointment, poured in the barn that serves as production, barrel room and tasting room, usually by Dirk himself, who walks guests through the whole process.
The property doubles as the home of Temecula Wine Country e-Bikes, with rentals by the half day or full day that come with maps and personal route recommendations from Dirk and Michelle, hotel delivery on day rentals, and optional wine carriers, making it easy to pair a garagiste tasting with a pedal through the vines.
