V12 Vineyards, St. Helena Winery & Tasting Room

Jimmy Vasser, the 1996 CART/IndyCar champion known for the V12 engines that powered his racing career, bought this rugged former chicken ranch on Napa Valley's eastern slopes in 2001. Working with estate manager Davie Piña, Vasser transformed the property, blasting and ripping apart rocky hillside terrain to prepare it for vines, ultimately planting just 8 of the estate's 45 acres across four distinct blocks, each with its own clone and rootstock combination.

Winemaker Chad Alexander has crafted V12's wines since 2010, focused primarily on Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of Malbec, originally planted only as a blending grape until Alexander suggested bottling it on its own. Sitting above the fog line near the Stags Leap Appellation, the estate produces around 700 to 800 cases a year, sold mostly to a small following built through word of mouth and Vasser's racing world connections.
