About Van Der Heyden Vineyards

Andre Van Der Heyden immigrated to the United States as a teenager from Holland, and it was a friend's gift of a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon that first hooked him on wine. Never formally trained, he took a home winemaker's class before moving his family to Napa Valley in 1977, settling on a gravel-road property off the Silverado Trail just north of Soda Canyon, marked by Dutch and American flags at the driveway.

At its peak the winery farmed 23 acres of 11 different grape varieties, producing 2,500 to 3,000 cases across more than 30 unique, often experimental small-batch wines, including a late-harvest Cabernet found almost nowhere else. The rustic, family-run tasting room, known for open-air seating among tractors and vintage trailers, closed after the property sold in 2015; the Van Der Heyden brand and winery are no longer in commercial production.

Andre Van Der Heyden's self-taught 1977 Silverado Trail winery, known for an unusual late-harvest Cabernet before closing in 2015.

A wine hobby that became a life,Andre Van Der Heyden had no formal winemaking training, learning instead through a home winemaker's class after a gifted bottle of Cabernet first sparked his interest.
A late-harvest Cabernet found nowhere else,Van Der Heyden was known for producing one of the only late-harvest Cabernet Sauvignons in Napa Valley, a rarity most wineries never attempted.
No longer in production, the winery and property sold in 2015, and Van Der Heyden Vineyards is no longer producing wine commercially.
