About Walnut Ridge Vineyard
Walnut Ridge has been growing wine grapes since 1995 and has been certified sustainable and Salmon Safe since 2005, but it only opened its gates to visitors in 2015. The thirty acres sit a few miles west of Junction City, between Corvallis and Eugene, in the foothills of the Coast Range with a southwestern exposure that carries the ripening through and produces, by the family's own account, some fairly serious sunsets.
The farming is dry and hand-tended, with LIVE certification alongside Salmon Safe. Everything bottled is estate grown, and the range is wider than most: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Gamay Noir and a rose of Gamay.
The tasting room is the thing people remember. It is modelled on a New Orleans building originally put up in the 1760s, French Colonial in style, with a steeply pitched roof, dormers, reclaimed hand-hewn timbers, gas lamps, aged concrete floors and a wood-burning fireplace. It sits on a low knoll in the middle of the vineyard with a full circle of views across the vines, neighbouring farms, hills and forest.
The New Orleans thread runs through the whole operation, down to the wine club, whose members are called the Krewe. Shareable small plates are available, and the winery asks that you not bring your own food or drink.

The southern end of the valley, between Corvallis and Eugene, well away from the Dundee and Newberg circuit.
"Worth the drive south for the building alone, and the wine list is broader than most of the valley."
