About Walter Scott Wines

Walter Scott Wines is a small, highly regarded winery in the Willamette Valley's Eola-Amity Hills, founded around 2009 by husband-and-wife team Ken Pahlow and Erica Landon. Ken, who previously worked at St. Innocent and Evening Land, and Erica, a sommelier and wine educator, poured everything into the project, and its Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs quickly earned national acclaim.

The focus is on wines of elegance and purity that convey transparency of site and the character of the vintage. Chardonnay makes up an unusually large share of production, all whole-cluster pressed and barrel fermented with indigenous yeast, while the Pinot Noirs are typically de-stemmed, picked earlier for lower pH, and built to be polished and age-worthy. Walter Scott sources from some of the valley's most historic and distinctive vineyards, including the fifteen-clone X Novo Chardonnay block, Seven Springs, and Sojourner. The wines are made in small quantities and released largely by allocation, and rather than keeping regular tasting hours the winery hosts a handful of events through the year.

Hours, tasting fees, and reservation policies change with the season, so it is worth checking the winery's website or calling ahead before you visit, especially on weekends. The details on this profile may have shifted since publication, and the producer is always the most authoritative source.

Elegance and purity, and transparency of site.

Wines change with each vintage
Walter Scott specializes in Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Blanc from exceptional Eola-Amity Hills and Willamette Valley vineyards. The whole-cluster-pressed, barrel-fermented Chardonnays and picked-early, balanced Pinot Noirs, including single-vineyard bottlings, are highly sought after. Releases rotate by vintage.
🥂
By Allocation
Walter Scott does not keep regular tasting hours. The winery releases its small production largely by mailing list and hosts a handful of in-person and virtual events through the year, so the best way to taste is to watch its events calendar or join the list. Visits are by arrangement.
