About Y. Rousseau Wines
Y. Rousseau Wines is the small, family-owned label of Yannick Rousseau, a French-born winemaker who brings the heritage of his native Gascony to California. Raised in southwestern France, where he made his first wine, a Colombard, and later worked alongside Tannat master Alain Brumont, Yannick moved to California in 1999 and, after stints at Newton and Chateau Potelle, launched his own label with his Texas-born wife Susan in 2008.
His mission is a personal one: to champion the grapes of his homeland. His flagship wines are drawn from Sonoma's Russian River Valley, a dry-farmed, old-vine Colombard from one of the region's only plantings, and award-winning Tannat, a variety he's determined to put on the American map, alongside Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Merlot. The wines pair Old-World restraint with California fruit, balanced and built for the table; the winery has been named among Wine and Spirits' Top 100 in the world.
Tastings are intimate and by appointment in a cozy barrel room, warmly hosted.
