About Zepaltas Wines
Zepaltas Wines is the artisan label of Ryan Zepaltas, made in small lots at an urban winery in Santa Rosa. Ryan grew up in Wisconsin with no wine culture to speak of, but after moving to the Russian River Valley in the late 1990s he fell hard for it, working at La Crema, a formative harvest at Villa Maria in New Zealand, and then many years as a winemaker at the acclaimed Pinot house Siduri (he also makes wine for Copain and Soliste).
He launched his own label with the 2005 vintage to make wine exactly the way he envisioned it. The focus is balanced, pure, food-friendly Pinot Noir from the cooler reaches of western Sonoma, the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast, along with Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Made with a light hand (partial whole-cluster, restrained oak, lower alcohol), the single-vineyard bottlings earn strong scores and reflect, as Ryan puts it, the places and people behind them.
Small-production and newsletter-driven, Zepaltas offers tastings by appointment.
