About 001 Vintners
001 Vintners is an allocation-only Napa Valley wine label created by the Martignetti family, a Boston wine-importing family whose roots in the trade go back to 1933, when Carmine Martignetti was granted retail license number 001 for the family grocery in Boston's North End after the repeal of Prohibition. That license number gives the winery its name and nods to nearly a century of the family's involvement with wine.
The project centers on a single, classically styled Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from the hillside Ecotone Vineyard - the old Thorevilos site that sits in its own small valley above St. Helena and below Howell Mountain, on rare white volcanic tufa soils. Third-generation principals Carmine and Beth Martignetti and their sons Freddie, Philip and Michael make the wine in partnership with winemaker Graeme MacDonald and grower Jack Bittner, with the wine crafted at Hudson Napa Valley.
001 Vintners is not open to the public and has no tasting room; production is tiny and the wine is offered through the winery's mailing list and allocation. Anyone interested in the wine should join the list or seek it through fine-wine retailers rather than plan a visit.
