About A.Aitch
A.Aitch is the personal label of veteran Napa Valley winemaker Ashley Hepworth, and the name is a phonetic play on her initials. After more than two decades making wine - including a long tenure at Joseph Phelps Vineyards, where she helped shape some of Napa's most celebrated bottlings - Hepworth launched A.Aitch as her own project, her first wine under her own name.
The wine is a single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from a block at the base of Rutherford's western bench, where gravelly soils and gentle slopes give a wine that is both powerful and poised. It is made with a precise, restrained hand - 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented in stainless steel and aged around 18 months in French oak - in a tiny production of roughly 130 cases, showing classic Rutherford character of black cherry, cassis, tobacco, loam and cocoa framed by fine, dusty tannins.
A.Aitch is a very small allocation label rather than a visitor destination, with no public tasting room. Anyone interested in the wine should join the winery's mailing list or seek it through fine-wine retailers.
