About Alban Vineyards
Alban Vineyards is John Alban's personal estate, his surname on the label he established in 1989 when he planted the first Viognier vines in California. John Alban is genuinely, historically responsible for California's Viognier culture: before his Edna Valley plantings, Viognier was essentially unknown in California wine country. The Alban name on a Viognier bottle carries the authority of the person who made the variety possible in this state.
The Orcutt Road estate produces Viognier, Roussanne, Grenache, Syrah, and Syrah from Edna Valley and Paso Robles vineyard sources with the Rhône philosophy that John Alban has developed over three decades of pioneering California Rhône viticulture. The estate is among California's most important references for understanding what the Rhône varieties can achieve in the Central Coast's maritime climate.
